PURPOSE:To improve the accuracy of a slab width and to form a flat slab by rolling down the slab in the transverse direction to increase the thickness at the traverse ends as compared to the transverse central part then pressing the slab in the thickness direction thereby decreasing the width spread and width fluctuation of the slab. CONSTITUTION:The slab 3 is cross rolled down by edging rolls 4, 5, by which the transverse ends are made thicker-walled as compared to the transverse central part, then the slab 3 is pressed in the thickness direction by the attaching and detaching motions of anvils 1, 2 by which the slab is formed to the prescribed thickness. The slab 3 is edged and the transverse ends are made thicker- walled than the transverse central part in the above-mentioned manner prior to thickness rolling down with the press, by which the spread of the slab 3 in the transverse direction is made difficult, the width fluctuation 7 of the slab is decreased and the accuracy of the slab width is improved. An elongation distribution 8 in the transverse direction is decreased as well and the uniform elongation in the transverse direction is realized. Since the deformation of the anvils 1, 3 is decreased, the flat slab is obtd. |
