The big end bearing in a connecting rod of an i.c. engine is made of two complementary parts (11, 12) with inner cylindrical surfaces and two removable shells (13). Two coupling bolts (14) are provided on diametrically opposite sides of the cylinder and join the parts together. The bolts have an enlarged central section (19) which engage in recesses (18) in the edges of the bearings shells in order to hold the shells axially relative to the complementary parts and to prevent the shells from rotating relative to the parts. Serrated outer surfaces (20) on the bolts engage with serrated surfaces in the bolt holes.
|
