Electrodes for manual-arc hard surfacing of low alloy steels comprise a core of Co wire alloyed with =10% of a metal increasing its ductility, e.g. Fe, Ni, Ti, Zr or Nb and a coating of a paste obtd. by bonging 15-25% of a liq. silicate of Na and/or K and 85-75% of a mixt. of powders contg. per 100 pts. 35-70 pts. alloy powders, 0-10 pts. deoxidising agents, 30-50 pts. slag-forming elements and 0-5 pts. elements improving extrusion; the alloy powders being composed of 20-40 pts. Mo, 0-30 pts. Cr, plus opt. a max. of 20 pts. Si or FeSi and a max. of 20 pts. Co. The dia. of the coating is 1.7 times the dia of the wire. The welding rod combines the ductility of the alloys making up the core with the properties of Mo-base powders in the coating. The hardness of the weld deposit is is approx. 60 HRC and the deposit shows excellent corrosion and wear resistance.
|
