PURPOSE:To prevent drop of the strength of a catalyst carrier and to enable to assemble a catalytic converter with ease, by inserting a catalyst carrier having a seal member and elastic members wound therearound into a casing, and then fixing the casing by contracting the same in the manner that displacement between the seal member and the elastic members is prevented. CONSTITUTION:At first, coupling portions 19, 20 of two half-split members 3, 4 are brought into abutment on each other by closing the two half-split members 3, 4 about a folding portion 10, and the coupling portions 19, 20 are coupled together by way of spot welding. Then, a catalyst carrier 5 having a seal member 7 and elastic members 6, 8, 9 wound therearound is inserted into the semi- cylindrical members 3, 4 of a substantially cylindrical casing 2. Thereafter, the casing 2 is contracted radially by pressing flange portions 17, 18 onto each other, and radial contraction of the casing 2 is fixed by spot-welding the flange portions 17, 18. |
