1311217 Manufacture of coated webs CIBAGEIGY AG 7 July 1970 [7 July 1970] 33013/ 70 Heading DIP [Also in Division C3] A process for the manufacture of prepegs comprises impregnating a fibrous substrate with a solution containing (c) a curable polyadduct, still containing free glycidyl groups, which is obtained by reacting triglycidyl isocyanurate with a cycloaliphatic, aromatic or heterocyclic polyamine containing at least two primary amino groups at elevated temperature with 0.05 to 0.5 amine hydrogen equivalent of the polyamine being employed per epoxide equivalent of the triglycidyl isocyanurate, (b) a curing agent in an amount sufficient for complete curing of the polyadduct (a) and (c) an organic solvent and subsequently drying the impregnated substrate. The substrate may be glass fibres, boron fibres, carbon fibres or other mineral fibres or polyimide fibres. The prereaction may be carried out using suitable solvents or directly in the melt at 70 to 220‹C. Examples of the curable polyadduct (a) are 4'-4' diaminodiphenylsulphone, 4 4'-diaminodiphenylmethane, 4-4' diamino-3,3' dimethyldicyclo hexyl methane and 1.3-di (γ-aminoproply)-5,5 dimethylhydantoin. Examples of the curing agent (b) are an aromatic or heterocyclic di-primary polyamine, e.g. 4,4'-diaminodiphenyl-sulphone, 4,4' diaminodiphenylmethane or a boron trifluoride-amine complex, preferably boron trifluoride - monoethylamine complex. The organic solvent (c) may be ethylene glycol mono methyl ether and/or dimethyl formamide. If the polyadducts have been manufactured by the melt process, the product is appropriately dissolved by organic solvent, e.g. ketones, alcohols, esters, D.M.S.O. and especially ethylene glycol monomethyl ether and/or dimethyl formamide, before mixing with the curing agent. |
