<p>PURPOSE:To refine steel with less electric power consumption and excellent production ratio without lowering yield rate of iron by a method wherein quick melting of raw materials by blowing of oxygen, and blowing-in the powdery mixture of SiC and C are conducted on refining steel by arc furnace. CONSTITUTION:Scrap in electric furnace is melted by elevating its temp. quickly in combination with arcing and blowing of oxygen, and even after the raw materials were melted-down both C powder and SiC powder are continued to blow with carrier gas, such as Ar gas, while proceeding oxygen blowing, where the ratio of Si to C is kept in the range 1:99-90:10, but initially the ratio of C to SiC being kept higher, than gradually the ratio of SiC to C is increased with time, and finally the quantity of SiC being blown is to exceed that of C. Thus, by allowing molten slag to bubble due to the generation of CO resulted from the reaction between C and O2, enveloping the arc to increase thermal efficiency, and by reducing FeO in the slag with SiC, steel can be made with less electric power per unit and also good productivity.</p> |
