Handles (16a) located on the patient supporting surface (1), e.g. of an X-ray unit, are used as electrodes for an ECG. Amplifiers (15a) for the ECG may be accommodated in the handle (16a). The leads (8a) are advantageously guided in the grooves (3a) of the patient supporting plate (1). They may also be replaced by an optical coupling. <IMAGE>
