In a clamp with two yoke parts (2, 3) projecting at right angles from a rail (1), one of which is a clamping member (threaded rod 4) which is adjustable substantially parallel to the rail (1) and the other of which is a counter-bearing (15) opposite to the clamping member, the counter-bearing (15) has the cross-section of a segment of a circle and rests with its cylindrical outer surface on the cylindrical bearing surface of a bearing block (7) attached to the assigned yoke part (2). The pivotable counter-bearing (15) guarantees a perfect contact on the surface of clamped workpieces, even when the rail (1) is bent under the influence of strong clamping forces. As a consequence of the pivot axis (17) of the counter-bearing which is situated above the pressure surface (23) of the counter-bearing (15), such clamping forces (arrows 24) always tend to bring the counter-bearing (15) into a stable equilibrium position, as a result of which, despite the pivotability of the counter-bearing (15), the creation of jolting moments which could make it considerably more difficult to manipulate the clamp is avoided. <IMAGE>
