A dipstick is insertable into the sump via a tube. In the tube is fitted an elastic wiper which sets against at least one side of the dip stick. The wiper comprises a plate spring fitted in the tube which elastically pushes a wiper plate against the dipstick. The plate spring with a part which is bent around is fastened on the oil tube mouth edge part., and forms a curve extending towards the tube centre, on which the wiper plate is fitted. The curve with one arm rests against the inside of the tube. - A manual component is adjustable by cover pressure between two positions causing the wiper to move from an operative position against the dipstick to a free position which it is withdrawn from the dipstick.
