摘要 A mixture-compressing internal combustion engine for vehicles, especially passenger motor vehicles, functioning at least at low and medium partial load with charge stratifying in an undivided combustion chamber, has a fuel injection device (8, 10), which during the inlet strokes injects the fuel by way of injection valves (8) into the respective intake lines (6) assigned to the individual combustion chambers (5) immediately upstream of or on the inlet valves (7). In order to obtain optimum operation for a low consumption, good running behaviour and in particular low pollutant emissions, especially in the NOx range, it is proposed that the injection device (8, 10) be designed in such a way that the injection ends on the admission stroke at a point lying at a fixed crank angular distance from the bottom dead centre and that its start be controllable as a function of the variables characterising the operating state of the internal combustion engine. <IMAGE>
