Ultrasonic measuring instrument

An instrument for measuring ultrasound has a chamber through which sound waves can pass from one end to the other. A device for focusing sound waves in the vicinity of one end of the chamber concentrates the sound waves at a focal point in the vicinity of the opposite end of the chamber. A revolving shutter wheel is arranged in the interior of the chamber at a point at which it can be set rotating by the concentrated sound waves passing over. Devices for transmitting and receiving a light beam are arranged on the instrument in such a way that the light beam is interrupted by the revolving shutter wheel and a sequence of light pulses is produced. A counter is operationally connected to the opto-receiver, and the light pulse sequences are used to actuate the counter and supply a display for the sound wave intensity. The instrument can be provided with an additional indicator for the sound wave intensity, in order to supplement the readout supplied by the counter.
