A microfilm camera (1) has in the camera housing (2) a light-emitting diode field (9) with light-emitting diodes (10). These light-emitting diodes (10) can be driven individually. The image of the light-emitting diode field (9) is fed into an auxiliary lens (13) via a deflecting mirror (14). As a result, the light-emitting diodes (10) are able to expose the film of a microfiche (4) in the exposure station (6) from the rear of the film, so that a code can be applied to an edge region of the film. This now gives rise to an optical coding which is able to replace the previously undertaken perforation of the microfiche. <IMAGE>
