This construction is a simple and economical embodiment of the folding ladder already filed under no. P. 3320519.1. In this embodiment, the central hinges are omitted, so that very great stability is achieved. After releasing the ratchet lock, the movable upright folds out laterally and is prevented from falling in a hard manner by a brake cylinder. Should, in higher ladders, a back protection be necessary, the same device can fulfil this purpose with fewer rungs and instead with a central connecting rail.
