The feeding device is used for plate-shaped workpieces (5) which are pushed off a vertically adjustable lifting table (2), to be precise according to a program to which the plates are successively subjected for machining. In order to compensate for unevenness in the plates and reduce adjusting operations to a minimum when the work programs are changed, at least two sliding arms (10) movable independently of one another are provided. Each sliding arm (10) has a stop (15) which can be adjusted by motor and is designed as an electric switch. The switches (18) lie in the control circuit for the lifting movement of the lifting table (2). The switches (18) of the individual sliding arms (10) are in operative connection with one another in such a way that the lifting movement of the lifting table (2) is interrupted only after all switches are actuated. The travel movement of the push-in truck (8) is controlled via an additional light-sensitive switch (19) on the sliding arm (10). <IMAGE>
