Device for discharging solid contaminants from liquid, pasty or viscous materials in an extruder, upstream of the extruder screw of which a breaker plate is provided at the die side and scrapers which are connected to a drive device and rotate on the breaker plate are arranged between the extruder screw and the breaker plate, which scrapers carry on the side directed towards the extruder screw a melt-flow restrictor mounted so as to be axially movable with respect to the extruder screw and a by pass channel leading out of the die housing being disposed on the inner end of the scrapers corresponding to the transport device, a discharge screw being arranged in the section of the by pass channel parallel to the axis of the extruder screw and either the discharge screw forming a part of the drive shaft of the melt-flow restrictor, which is provided with a drive that is independent of the extruder screw, or the drive shaft of the melt-flow restrictor coaxially penetrating the discharge screw, which is provided with a separate drive.
