NEW MATERIAL:The compound of formula I (R<1> is H or lower alkyl; R<2> and R<3> are H, lower alkyl or lower alkoxy, or together form -CH=CH-CH=CH-; R<4> is H or protecting group; n is 1 or 2). EXAMPLE:Thioglycolic acid 2-(3,4-dihydro-6-hydroxy-2,5,7,8-tetramethyl-2H-benzopyranyl)ethyl ester. USE:It is useful as a material having higher antioxidation action than vitamin E, or a precursor of a compound having the above antioxidation action. It can be produced easily at a low cost. PREPARATION:The compound of formula I can be produced by reacting the 2- substituted ethyl alcohol of formula II or its reactive derivative with the mercaptoalkanoic acid of formula HS-(CH2)n-CO2H or its reactive derivative under the common ester-synthesis reaction condition. |
