[Also in Division F2] A device for controlling the limits of movement of a writing element 8, 9 in a direction T substantially perpendicular to the direction of movement of a recording-medium comprises a transmission linkage 5, 11, 12 providing operational co-operation between a driving element 1, 2 and the writing element 8, 9 in such a way that there is no component of driving movement acting on the writing element 8, 9 in the direction T when it reaches a selected one of respective critical positions defining the limits of its movement. A transmission lever 5 is urged by a spring 6 against a fixed stop 7 and, when pulses are supplied to an electromagnet 1, the armature 2 thereof causes the lever 5 to oscillate about an axis 4 between the stop 7 and either a movable stop 13, or a fixed stop 17 if a magnet 16 is energized to move the stop 13 out of the path of the lever 5. The oscillating lever 5 drives a writing lever 8 through a slot 11 engaging a pin 12 in an arm 10 of the lever 8 and a writing pin 9 traces a narrow or wide bar diagram 19 or 20 according to which stop 13 or 17 is operative. The slot 11 has three arcuate parts 21, 23, 25 centred on the axis 4 and intermediate camming parts 22, 24. The parts 22, 24 transmit transverse components of motion to the writing pin 19 which cease precisely as the pin 12 enters a part 21, 23 or 25. The slope of the part 24 exceeds that of the part 22 thus increasing the transmission ratio at a stage when the pull of the magnet is greater. |
