A rechargeable electrochemical battery for heating aids and electronic calculators uses silver oxides as the active mass in the positive, and iron as active mass in the negative electrode. The whole cell is in a gas tight enclosure so tht the gases released inside come into contact with the negative as well as the positive electrodes. The ratio between the number of electrochemical equivalents in the negative and that in the positive electrode is 1.00-0.70 (0.95-0.90). This cell has a much longer life than other alkaline accumulators. It has a high energy density and eliminates the environmental pollution problem created by mercury batteries.
|
