<p>The compressor casing (10) has a central chamber (11) separated by walls (14, 15) from outer chambers (12, 13). The shaft (20) carries a rotor (24) which has a projecting lobe (25) with a sinusoidal profile in the central chamber (10). This divides the central chamber into two spaces (L, R). A groove (27) in the base of the central chamber carries an axially sliding partition (30). This has a slot (33) through which the rotor lobe (25) runs and by means of which it moves the partition axially. The rotor has a constant thickness in one plane through the axis and a variable thickness in a plane perpendicular to the first. The slot in the partition has tapered edges to the rotor lobe.</p> |
