The bicycle tyre has an elastic insert ring (10) set between the tyre and the inner tube, with the ring being pushed under the tread by the tube. The ring protects the tube from punctures by giving way when a nail or similar article presses through the thin part of the thread. The insert ring provides the same protection as the cords in a car tyre. It enables the bicycle to be ridden over rough ground with minimum risk of punctures.
