1275311 An aminopyrimidine IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 9 Jan 1970 [6 Feb 1969] 6469/69 Heading C2C The novel compound 2-methylamino-4-hydroxy-5-n-butyl-6-methylpyrimidine and the ethers, esters, acid addition, metal and ammonium salts thereof, is prepared by reacting the corresponding 2-methylthio-derivative with methylamine or by condensing ethyl 2-n-butylacetoacetate with methylguanidine carbonate and, if required, converting the product to the ester, ether or salts by conventional methods. The ethers may also be obtained by reacting the 4-chloro derivative with an hydroxy compound, e.g. 2-diethylaminoethanol, in the presence of sodium. Esters may be prepared using the acid halides of, e.g. p-toluene sulphonic, methanesulphonic, ethylcarbonic, benzoic, pnitrobenzoic or cinnamic acids. Specified metal salts are Na, K, Ag and Hg. Acid addition salts may be formed from organic and inorganic acids. The pyrimidine and its derivatives possess fungicidal properties and are used in conventional forms to combat fungal plant diseases.
