The insulator is for a reservoir having holders hanging from the steel angle at the roof edge for horizontal rails clear of the reservoir wall. The guard plates of the insulating cladding are fixed to the rails. The complete structure hangs like a skirt with the guard plates round the reservoir wall allowing free movement in the vertical direction. Expansion in the peripheral direction is absorbed by increased pressure on the hard insulating strip in the holders and also in the expansion space at the junction points between the holders and rails. The forces occurring with these movements are not transmitted to the guard plates.
