The device acts on a charge on a continuously-moving carrier. It has at least one smooth-polished corrosion-resistant-surfaced smoothing roll (7) against a rubber-surfaced transporting roll (8) which drives it, suspended on a pivot from the transporting roll axis (10) so that it can be brought down on the surface to be smoothed. - A film of fluid is supplied by a spray device (12) with a holder (13) round it next to the transporting roll containing a roll (15) partly immersed in the fluid.
