PURPOSE:To provide a small-sized and low-priced valve device which can be operated reliably and quietly by opening and closing a valve seat under the reciprocal action of a curved electrostriction element and an elastic body for applying spring force. CONSTITUTION:Valve seats 22, 24 expanded like a truncated cone are formed at the central portions of the inner surfaces of upper and lower side wall portions 20a, 20b of an enclosure 10, and a bimorph electrostriction element 34 crossing space in the enclosure is interposed between the valve seats 22, 24. The electrostriction element 34 is formed by piling up a pair of plate element pieces 36a, 36b which can be expanded in the opposite direction to each other according to polarity of applied voltage, and both ends of the electrostriction element are supported on left and right side wall portions 26a, 26b through engaging members 32a, 32b and coiled springs 30a, 30b. The electrostriction element 34, which is usually bent by the force of the springs 30a, 30b, is pressed to a valve seat 22 to block up a fluid inlet 14, and when electric current is applied, the electrostriction element 34 is turned reversely in the opposite direction to block up a fluid outlet 18. |
