<p>Granules are produced by spraying aqs. NaOH soln. contg. 30-80, pref. 40-60 wt. % NaOH, onto vigorously agitated bed of anhyd. Na2CO3 in such amt. (pref. 0.1-1.0 pbw. NaOH w.r.t. Na2CO3) and at such rate that formation of relatively large agglomerates is avoided. Temp. of bed pref. is 100-300, esp. 200-270 degrees C). Product does not suffer disadvantages of solid NaOH, NaOH psolns. and Na2CO3 in form of light soda. Na2CO3 from ammonia-soda process and NaOH soln. from electrolysis of brine can be used as starting materials. Granules are used, e.g. in glass making and metallurgy.</p> |
