<p>The opening in a nuclear reactor tank is closed by a slightly flexible disc which is mounted on an annular washer supported by an annular flange inside the aperture. The disc has a control external pressure application shaft, and a clamping ring screws into the aperture to clamp the disc periphery in position. The lower face of the ring has two annular projections which restrict the amount of flexing of the disc under pressure changes, ensuring that the annular joint is not subjected to great stresses and so increasing its useful life.</p> |
