PURPOSE:To prevent the signal discriminating phase margin from lowering and to obtain a magnetic recording device having a small data error rate, be setting the thickness of a magnetic pole positioned in the forward direction of the running movement to a value of a range smaller than the thickness of another magnetic pole in the backward direction. CONSTITUTION:By setting the pole thickness T3 of a front magnetic pole 30 to about 0.7-0.9 times of the pole thickness T4 of a rear magnetic pole 31, the front half-amplitude level 45 of an isolated waveform becomes smaller than the rear half-amplitude level 46. When recording and reproduction are made with a magnetic head having such magnetic poles, skewness in magnetization for recording is offset by the influence of a demagnetizing field and the peak shift of the reproduced waveform becomes almost positive-to-negative symmetrical. For example, the difference between a peak shift generated by a minimum magnetization inverting interval pattern 53 and another peak shift generated by a magnetization inverting interval pattern 54 larger than the said peak shift approaches zero and the difference Tp11 in the peak shifts becomes considerably small. |
