An electromagnetic switch having normally open and normally closed pairs of contacts (22, 24) has a moving yoke (12) which has recesses with inclined guide surfaces (18', 18'') for guiding moving contact elements (16) which are arranged in the recesses. These inclined surfaces are used to clamp the yoke against the base plate (10) of the switch when the yoke is moved in a direction for opening fused pairs of contacts, in order in this way to prevent simultaneous closing of the normally open and normally closed pairs of contacts. <IMAGE>
