PURPOSE:To provide an imaging device wherein controlling the position of a printing head and varying the printing size can be performed by a single encoder and a simple processing circuit, by a method wherein a plurality of encoding elements in an encoder are arranged at the same pitch, and encoding characteristics of some of the elements are made to be different from those of the other elements. CONSTITUTION:For example, in an encoder 11 for servo-controlling the position of the printing head 13, the length of some of slit parts 12 provided therein is made to be different from that of the other slit parts, whereby the printing size can be varied by the single encoder 11 and a photo-coupler 14. Further, FG signals from the encoder 11 are counted by a counter 29, and after the counted value reaches a predetermined value (Na+Nb), turning OFF of a voltage impressed on a motor 15 and reverse rotation of the motor 15 are controlled. |
