PURPOSE:To form and to collet L-serine efficiently, by treating beta-hydroxyaspartic acid with a culture, mold, etc. of a bacterium capable of converting beta-hydroxyaspartic acid into L-serine. CONSTITUTION:beta-Hydroxyaspartic acid is treated with a culture, mold, or a treated material of it of a bacterium belonging to the genus Achromobacter, Aeromonas, Bacillus, etc. This process, for example, is carried out by cultivating the bacterium in a fermentation medium containing beta-hydroxyaspartic acid. A medium containing a C source, N source, and inorganic ion is usually used as the medium. The cultivation is done under aerobic conditions at 20-40 deg.C at 4-10pH. beta-Hydroxyaspartic acid is converted into L-serine after 5-70hr cultivation. In order to collect L-serine from the culture solution, a well-known method such as one using ion exchange resin, etc. is applied. |
