The invention relates to a method of producing a soil improver or soil auxiliary, from the bark of trees, in which the bark is cleaned, comminuted and subjected to heat treatment and drying in the course of the process. It is distinguished by the fact that the heat treatment and drying are carried out by means of hot air which is supplied to the bark, located in a drier, in the form of combustion gases of biological fuels.
