The distance measurement is accomplished by measurement of a blur disk (4) produced on the object by a laser point (1) viewed through a ''blur''-adjusted objective (2). If, in doing so, the image is measured on a reception plane (3) outside the image distance b, then the diameter D of the blur disk (4) being produced is inversely proportional to the light point distances and it can be determined by means of a light-sensitive line receiver according to the number of the reacting reception cells. The accuracy of the measurement is only influenced by the dimensioning of the optics being used and by the resolution of the line receiver, the measurement time being essentially dependent only on the reaction time of the reception cells.
