The invention relates to a control device for the starting of a gas-heated circulating-water heater with a combustion chamber, the air throughflow of which is ensured via a blower. For starting, the motor for the blower and the motor for the pneumatic pressure medium source for the gas regulator are first switched to maximum capacity, the pressure medium source bringing, via a common connection, the bypass flap for the air throughput through the combustion chamber of the heat source into the closed position and the proportional control valve arranged in the gas path into the completely open position as well as a screen in the gas path lying in series with the proportional control valve into the throttling position, whereupon a closed-position signal contact connected to the bypass flap signals the closed position of the flap to a timing element which, after expiry of a time which can be set on it, stops and switches off the control device provided that during this time there is no acknowledgement of the minimum air throughput by the air-shortage safety device of the heat source.
