A device, which can be attached to a voltage source, for indicating and locating leaks in tanks and pipelines having thermal or low-temperature insulation has a strip of foamed plastic on which at least one metallic measuring conductor is held by perforated kraft paper. The opposite side of the foamed-plastic strip is provided with an adhesive coating by means of which this indicator strip can be fastened to the surface of the object to be monitored, for example a tank or pipeline.
