The invention relates to a connecting device for the electrical and mechanical connection of a contacting element (2, 3, 4). The contacting elements (2, 3, 4), which can optionally be plugged onto a measurement probe (1), are constructed as a hook clip, crocodile clip or plug-on shoe and are hence matched to the respective contacting task. In order on the one hand to improve the electrical safety and on the other hand to improve the handling capability of the contacting elements, said elements are equipped with an insulating hollow body (5). The connection between the measurement probe (1) on the one hand and the contacting element (2, 3, 4) on the other hand is secured against being released inadvertently by means of latching elements which are constructed on the inside of the hollow body (5). In other respects, the hollow body (5) is dimensioned such that the resulting tracking paths achieve at least the length which is required for protection against electric shock.
