PURPOSE:An oxygen detection type biosensor having a simple structure and high sensitivity, a partition wall for causing a liquid junction between a solution to be measured and brought into contact with a working electrode and an electrically conductive solution brought into contact with a counter electrode. CONSTITUTION:An inlet path 5 and an outlet path 6 are communicated to a path 4 of a cylinder 3 having both ends closed with spacers 1 and 2, and a working electrode 9 having an immobilized physiologically active substance, e.g. an enzyme carrying out reaction consuming oxygen, e.g. glucose oxidase, is mounted on one side of the path 4. On the other hand, a chamber 7 opened to the path 4 is provided in the intermediate part of the cylinder 3, and partition wall 8 causing a liquid junction between the path 4 and the chamber 7 is provided. A counter electrode 10 is installed in the interior of the chamber 7 to constitute a biosensor (symbols 11 and 12 indicate lead wires). In measurement, an electrically conductive solution is introduced into the chamber 7, and a solution to be measured is passed through the paths 5, 4 and 6 while applying a constant voltage across the working electrode 9 and the counter electrode 10. The change in current flowing between both electrodes is detected to measure the amount of a test specimen in the solution to be measured. |
