The invention relates to a process for isomerising dichlorotoluenes, in which the dichlorotoluenes, in the gas phase, are passed over an acidic zeolite catalyst. In particular, 2,4-dichlorotoluene is isomerised in this manner to give 2,5- and 3,4-dichlorotoluene. Particularly suitable zeolites are synthetic zeolites of the pentasil, mordenite or faujasite type in their acidic form.
