The padlock has an axially sliding pin which is passed through the links of the chain to be secured. The pin spans a U-shaped recess in the lock body, which is made of brass and encased in a hardened steel cover for security. The body is elliptical in cross section. The body (1) contains a lock cylinder (7) which actuates an axially sliding rod (3). When locked, the rod (3) is pressed into an annular groove (203) in the pin, preventing axial movement of the pin. Chain links, through which the pin is passed, are thus retained between the two surfaces of the U-shaped recess (2). The pin is gripped by a knob (103) for withdrawal, and has a spring-loaded catch (10).
