<p>The variable speed hub gear for a bicycle has a number of toothed rings (7) cut inside the hub. Each toothed ring meshes with a pinion (23) which meshes with a second pinion (24) which in turn meshes with a central wheel (25). Each central wheel has a splined bore which can be engaged by the splines (39) of a sliding tubular shaft (32). The gear ratio between the input shaft and the hub depends on which travin of gears is engaged by the splines (39). This design of variable speed gear provides a large number of gear ratios in a very compact space.</p> |
