PURPOSE:To prevent deformation of the air electrode as well as variation in the concentration of electrolyte during use or storage, so as maintain the prescribed discharge capacity for long period of time by filling moisture absorbing material having rubber elasticity in the space between the gas electrode and the air intake port. CONSTITUTION:A moisture absorbing material having rubber elesticity is used to fill an air chamber 7 which is the space between a gas electrode 3 and an air intake port 8. For example, a copolymer composed of chlorosulphonated polyethylene which is a synthetic rubber and polyethylene glycol which is a water soluble polymer, can be used as the moisture absorbing material. Since this type of moisture absorbing material can absorb moisture up to 55% of its own weight, it can ease the humidity difference inside and outside of the cell and consequently maintains the cell performance constant for a long period of time. Additionally, it has tensile strength of 330kg/cm<2> and elongation percentage of 440%, exhibiting elasticity equivalent to that of an ordinary rubber. Thus it can prevent deformation of the air electrode due to vibration during use or storage of the cell. |
