<p>Equipment for removing or suppressing folds or creases in the trunk portion of a pair of stocking tights incorporates a vertical tubular body open at the base and surrounded by an annular array of grips on levers which deploy radially outwards under the influence of an elastic ring engaged on the ends of the levers above their pivot points. The grips are released from alignment parallel to the tubular body by raising a yoke which otherwise bears on ancillary levers projecting from the main hook levers. Once the radial hooks have engaged the lever part of the trunk in radial tension, a pair of jaws can grip and extend the trunk to place the fabric under sufficient tension to remove any residual creases. The legs of the stockings can be released from individual suction tubes beneath the main tube to allow them to be drawn in turn up into the bore of the main tube to leave the biaxially extended and smoothed trunk portion of the tights exposed ready for stitching ancillary seams or linings etc. Opt. the internal surfaces of the distended trunk can be further smoothed mechanically by insertion of a cup-shaped elastomeric plug.</p> |
