For the preparation of neohexene, or for the simultaneous preparation of neohexene and glycol n-alkyl neohexyl ethers, or polyglycol n-alkyl neohexyl ethers, alkali metal hydroxides are reacted in a two-phase system with neohexyl chloride at temperatures from 100 to 250 DEG C in the presence of a glycol ether, or polyglycol ether. If a glycol monoalkyl ether, or polyglycol monoalkyl ether, is employed as the glycol ether, or polyglycol ether, then the glycol n-alkyl neohexyl ether, or polyglycol n-alkyl neohexyl ether, is obtained in addition to neohexene.
