PURPOSE:To decrease the amt. of oxygen in a weld metal to about 10ppm and to improve considerably toughness by adding a specific amt. of Al, Al-Mg, Mg and Ca-Si which are metals or intermetallic compd. to a titled flux. CONSTITUTION:0.5-8.0wt% >=1 kind among Al, Al-Mg, Mg and Ca-Si which are metals or intermetallic compd. are added to a flux for general submerged arc welding consisting of SiO2, MnO, CaO, CaF2, etc. If submerged arc welding is performed by using such flux, the amt. of oxygen in the weld metal is decreased to a level of about 100ppm and the toughness is considerably improved without using a costly element for improving toughness. |
