<p>Suppression of nitrification of ammonia N in the soil resulting in increased efficiency of utilisation of fertiliser N is effected by impregnating the soil with 5-50 ppm of N-substd.-alpha, alpha , alhpa-tri-Cl-acet-amidine of formula (I) or their salts with acids. where R'=H, 1-6C alkyl, 2-6C alkenyl or Ph. R"=1-6C alkyl or 2-6C alkenyl, 3-6C cycloalkyl, benzyl, Ph-ethyl, or Ph opt. substd. with Me, MeO or EtO R= 1-3C alkyl. (I) are mixed with carriers in a concn. of 1-10% calcd. on the total N of the carrier, and then mixed with the soil at a concn. of pref. 5-50 ppm calcd. on the air-dry soil. Nitrification is completely suppressed.</p> |
