PURPOSE:To reduce the maintenance of a car and to prevent a breakage of an engine due to slipping of a toothed belt by disposing means for optically detecting a gap at an engagement portion on both sides of the engagement portion of a pulley with a toothed belt. CONSTITUTION:Small holes are bored through a U-shaped bracket 11 on both sides of an engagement portion 44 of a cam pulley 2 with a toothed belt 4, and lead wires 15, 16 are inserted in the small holes 13, 14 and retained by adhesive hardening agents 21, 22 and pressing washers 23, 24. A photoelectric chamber 25 and a photoelectric element chamber 27 are connected to the other ends of the lead wires 15, 16. In this arrangement, when one tooth of the toothed belt 4 falls off, a gap is produced at an engagement portion 44 of the pulley 2 with the toothed belt 4 and the gap is detected by photo detecting means, which can easily indicate the time for replacing the toothed belt 4 to prevent an increase in the car maintenance cost and prevent a breakage of an engine due to slipping of the toothed belt 4. |
