PURPOSE:To attain efficient inertia supercharging in an internal combustion engine, by changing the total sectional area of intake passage by closing part of branch passages at the time of low-speed operation of the engine, and increasing the number of operative branch passages with increasing of the engine speed. CONSTITUTION:A first and a second intake passages 3, 5 are respectively composed of two branch passages 3a, 3b and 2 branch passages 5a, 5b which are both juxtaposed with each other and consist of a double pipe or juxtaposed pipes. An intake apparatus of this invention includes valves 11a, 11b which open and close the inlet portions of the branch passages 3a, 5a, respectively. Further, the apparatus includes a sensor 12 for detecting the speed of an internal combustion engine 1 and a controller 13 which opens and closes the valves 11a, 11b automatically in response to the information given from the sensor 12. With such an arrangement, the valves 11a, 11b are opened when the detected engine speed is higher than a prescribed value and they are closed when the engine speed is lower than the prescribed value. |
