The present invention relates to a new device intended to detect the abnormal rise in temperature of an internal combustion engine or other similar equipment and for producing a visual or audible warning when this temperature exceeds a predetermined threshold. According to Figure 1, the device is characterised by the use of a freon probe which is housed in an orifice located at the top of the cylinder head and which actuates, by pressure, a temperature indicator. The temperature indicator, generally placed on the dashboard, is fitted with an adjustable contact which controls an audible or visual warning, and the operation of an auxiliary cooling fan. The invention can be used in the motor vehicle industry. <IMAGE>
