The apparatus is constituted by a frame comprising two elements 1, 2 which are jointed to each other around an axis and provided with means 5, 6, 7a, 7b, 8 for their fastening respectively above and below the knee so as to position the abovementioned axis substantially coincident with the axis of movement of the knee. According to the invention, it comprises an elastic return organ 11 harnessed between the two elements 1, 2 and whose effect tends to return these elements into their most open angular position.
