Telephone switching device or telephone PABX system with means for triggering internal signalling and/or switching functions by dialling one more digits via dial switches (rotary dial, keypad) of a connected telephone set of the PABX system, differentiation means being provided which, on the basis of at least one criterion, identify whether a digit or digit sequence dialled via the dial switch forms a control signal to trigger an internal function or is transmitted to the exchange line in the form of dial signals, where a dial signal which is injected after a loop closure which is effected in response to an incoming exchange call evaluated in order to trigger an internal function not being until, or being evaluated only when the dial tone is not received by the exchange line within a predefined period.
