A single-limb liquid manometer is described in which the top end of the measuring tube and the vessel for the measuring liquid are connected to one another by a connecting tube. The connecting tube contains a valve which is either actuated manually or is preferably designed as a non-return valve which, during vacuum in the measuring-liquid container, during positive pressure in the top part of the connecting tube or during pressure balance, opens under the weight of the measuring liquid collected above the valve. The vacuum connection is made in the top part of the connecting tube. If the measuring range is exceeded, the measuring liquid is not ejected through the vacuum connection piece but collects above the valve in the connecting tube of appropriate dimensions, from which it is discharged or flows off into the measuring-liquid container without difficulty after the conditions are normalised.
